Photomicrograph (microscopic view) of sperm within a disposable counting chamber. The volume within counting chambers is fixed (but specific to each type of chamber), so the concentration of sperm is calculated using a formula unique to the specific counting chamber that is used (in this case, the “concentration of sperm per mL” equals the “number of motile and nonmotile sperm within 10 grid boxes” divided by 2).
