Testicular tissue originates (in the human male fetus) near the kidneys within the upper abdomen. During normal fetal development within the mother’s uterus (womb) the testes move toward and then into the scrotal sac. At about 7 months gestation, the testes generally cross the inguinal crease, through the inguinal canal into the scrotal sac.
